Health Education, Associate of Applied Science

The A.A.S in Health Education provides the student with a basic background in the rapidly growing field of health education.  Students pursuing this degree will learn about preventative health strategies and health promotion methods in various populations.  This concentration is ideal for the student seeking a career that is not strongly science-based, but rather one that teaches them how to educate clients to make healthy life choices.  Health educators work in medical settings, colleges and universities, public health departments, nonprofit organizations, and private businesses.  Upon completion of the A.A.S. in Health Education curriculum, students will be eligible to seamlessly matriculate into the B.S. in Community Health Education if they desire to do so.

Program Objectives:

  • Prepare graduates who are qualified to plan and implement evidenced based health promotion programming for individuals and communities in regional and national settings.
  • Provide an environment that promotes excellence and professionalism, and a commitment to lifelong learning for students and faculty.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Students completing this program will be able to:

  • Identify and apply the steps of health education program planning (community and individual assessment, program planning, program implementation, and program evaluation) at a foundational level.
  • Identify social, cultural, and economic factors that promote or hamper learning by individuals and various communities.
  • Plan basic health promotion programs for individuals and communities using evidence-based strategies.
  • Implement health promotion programs for individuals and communities using evidence-based strategies.
