Community Health Education Minor

The Community Health Education (CHE) minor is for students seeking an increased understanding of health issues in the community setting providing a basic understanding in the rapidly growing field of community health education.  The minor is especially well suited to students with a major or an interest in the health sciences, social sciences, or those who plan to work in community or public health settings.  Students completing the CHE minor may be eligible to sit for the Community Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam depending upon their program major and classes taken.

Objectives:

  • Prepare graduates who are qualified to plan and implement existing evidenced based health promotion programming for individuals and communities in regional and national settings.
  • Provide an environment that promotes excellence and professionalism, and a commitment to lifelong learning for students and faculty.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify and apply the steps of health education program planning (community and individual assessment, program planning, program implementation, and program evaluation) at a foundational level.
  • Identify social, cultural, and economic factors that promote or hamper learning by individuals and various communities.
  • Plan basic health promotion programs for individuals and communities using evidence-based strategies. 
  • Implement health promotion programs for individuals and communities using evidence-based strategies.
