Communication, Organizational Communication Concentration

Offered by the Department of Art, Communication, English and World Languages 


The Department offers a major in Communication with four concentrations: Electronic Media, Public Relations, Sports Information, and Organizational Communication.

The Organizational Communication concentration prepares students for a variety of careers that involve managing, recruiting, and writing. The Program offer an extensive background in huuman communication study in areas such as business and communication, interpersonal communication, and small group communication.

Graduates often seek employment in management, human services, retail, health care, counseling, law or continue to graduate school with the objective of seeking education-based careers.

Internship

Qualified students are encouraged to participate in the Department’s successful internship program. The intern applicant must have a 2.5 overall GPA and a 3.0 in the major to qualify. Additional experiences may be acquired through COM 2250/4450 Special Projects. Internships may be completed for 6-12 credits for the internship experience. A student may only complete one internship experience for credit.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Engage in effective communication in a professional setting.
  • Apply communication theories to various communication situations.
  • Demonstrate the use of communication technology.
  • Assess interpersonal similarities and differences among various diverse populations.
  • Design a targeted oral presentation.
  • Describe the relationship between communication and conflict.
  • Describe the relationship between communication and leadership.
