The Geographic Information System Certificate Program will teach students to analyze spatial data, develop technical mapping skills, and apply visual design principles to their practice by learning both traditional and robust analytical software, along with the latest interactive tools. This, along with a heavy emphasis on design, enables students to make compelling, data-driven maps and visualizations to solve real-world problems.

Objectives

  • Educate students in geospatial technologies.
  • Provide opportunities to analyze data, explore issues, problem solve, and evaluate situations.
  • Gather and convey information effectively.
  • Behave appropriately and safely in a shared learning environment.

Learning Outcomes

  • Comprehend fundamental concepts and practices of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and advances in Geospatial Information Science and Technology (GIS&T).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of GIS tools to create maps that are fit-for-purpose and effectively convey the information they are intended to.
  • Effectively communicate and present project results in oral, written, and graphic forms.
