The French minor enables Mansfield University to respond to national and regional needs by preparing students in other majors for a working environment that rewards employees who are proficient in French and who grasp the historical, cultural, and political background associated with French culture. In French-speaking areas of Canada, in the Middle East, and in northern and western Africa, French is used in professional settings - as it is, of course, in France itself and in diplomatic circles and many business settings around the world.
After successful completion of the minor program, students will be able to:
- Understand and speak the target language at an intermediate-mid level as described in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines.
- Read and write in the target language at the intermediate-mid level.
- Demonstrate understanding of French culture.
