The African American Studies minor offers students the opportunity to study African American culture from a multidisciplinary perspective. The minor seeks to prepare students to meet the challenges of an increasingly diverse workplace, society, and world.

Program Requirements

Humanities - Choose 3 credit hours from the following:

ENG 2220 and ENG 3320 must have an African-American topic

Social Sciences or Fine Arts - Choose 3 credit hours from the following:

Capstone: Choose 3 credit hours from the following:

ENG 4401 and HST 4452 must have an African-American topic

ENG 4401 - SEMINAR IN LITERARY STUDIES
HST 4452 - SOUTH AFRICA: FROM CAPE COLONY TO APARTHEID
HST 4496 - SENIOR SEMINAR
Any 4497 or 4000 level course designated as an African or African-American Capstone course.

Electives

Take three courses from the following:

ENG 3305 and ENG 3307 must have an African-American topic
SPE 3275 is by instructor permission
May also take any of the Core courses listed above not used to meet requirements
