A comprehensive B. S. in Graphic Design program that prides itself in the individual attention from professors and advisors it gives to students. The major has two distinct tracks: print graphics and motion graphics. It is a unique program in that it lives within the Art Department, but bridges to the Communications Department, which is where several of the required courses for the major are located, in particular, specific courses to communications and to the motion graphics track. The major includes integrated coursework from programs in art, communications, journalism, and business culminating in an internship in the senior year. The Graphic Design major is the voice that will speak to and through these other disciplines.

As a graphic designer, one must become a “subject matter expert” (in a manner of speaking) for each and every project that is designed. It is the goal of the program to have our design students leave Mansfield University not as trained “desktop publishers”…or with a software vocation…but with an approach to thinking, communicating, and creating that allows them to be problem solvers and catalysts for successful visual communication in our society.

Satisfying and inspiring careers in graphic design include: corporate design; publishing; small design firms (covering everything from project quotation, design, production, print coordination, and client contact); web design, game design; human interactive design; product design; etc.
